Denton County honors two long‑serving employees with retirement resolutions

Denton County Commissioners Court adopted resolutions Dec. 3 recognizing the retirement of two long‑serving county employees.
The court read and approved a resolution honoring Assistant Chief Deputy Barry Caver, who the resolution says began his law‑enforcement career in 1976 and served in multiple roles including Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Rangers before his tenure at the Denton County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Tracy Murphy and multiple commissioners praised Caver’s leadership, particularly during the COVID‑19 pandemic, and the motion to approve the resolution passed unanimously.
The court also approved a resolution honoring Gary Cook, senior development coordinator in the Department of Development Services, for 15 years of county service dating from Feb. 9, 2009, through his retirement effective Jan. 2, 2025. Commissioners and colleagues credited Cook with mentorship, expertise in plat review and floodplain management, and institutional knowledge that will be missed; the motion passed unanimously.
Both resolutions were presented in open court, each followed by remarks from commissioners, department staff and colleagues, and each approved by unanimous voice vote.
