Council members warn proposed 2.5-ounce weekly cap could limit access for seriously ill patients

A filed Senate bill (SB320) proposing a 2.5-ounce weekly limit on purchased medical marijuana prompted council discussion about patient access.
Council member Katie Veil said the limit could "limit a lot of our very, very sick patients" who use concentrated products such as RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) and may require greater quantities than a 2.5-ounce weekly cap allows. "A lot of patients, especially your very high risk, I mean, cancer, advanced conditions, there's a lot of need for RSO," Veil said.
Another council member said existing rules could work if properly enforced but that the proposed cap is unacceptable to some members. Director Berry and staff said they would share council concerns with the bill author and reminded members that the council itself does not take advocacy positions; members were encouraged to speak with legislators individually.
No vote was taken; the discussion was informational only because a quorum was absent.
