District honors staff and student achievements; Kayla Basha and Alberta Pedro recognized

At its Nov. 3 meeting the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education recognized staff and student achievements across athletics, arts and counseling.
Superintendent Dr. Bonk announced that Kayla Basha, the college and career counselor at Roy C. Ketcham High School (referred to in the meeting as Roycey Ketchum), was recognized as the Dutchess County School Counselor of the Year and asked the principal to acknowledge her. Dr. Bonk also presented an award and medallion to Alberta Pedro, district clerk and assistant to the superintendent, who was honored by the Mid-Hudson School Studies Council in the support staff services category. Dr. Bonk described Pedro’s responsibilities for board minutes, agenda management and the annual budget vote process.
Trustees and student board members highlighted athletic accomplishments: John Jay teams advancing to sectionals or semifinals (boys soccer, girls volleyball, football semifinal vs. Scarsdale), boys volleyball playoff appearances, cross-country sectionals, cheerleading state qualification, and a listing of 13 all-league athletes. Board members thanked music teachers and accompanists for recent concerts and noted a John Jay car show and donations from the Dutchess County Cruisers to a school project.
These recognitions were presented as part of board reports; no formal votes were required.
