Superintendent Eric Kelly told the board the district was awarded a competitive McKinney‑Vento grant of $75,000 per year for three years to help reduce out‑of‑district transportation costs by establishing a home‑share system for students experiencing housing instability.
Kelly also described progress at Carpenter School: demolition of damaged ceiling tiles is nearly complete, the affected multi‑purpose spaces have been cleared, temporary doors and signage are in place to maintain safe egress, and ceiling strapping work has begun. He said air quality in occupied spaces has been monitored and reported as acceptable while construction proceeds and that phase 1 is on track for winter completion with occupancy and final approvals to follow.
On nutrition, Kelly announced the district is implementing an expanded local meals eligibility program for families and staff; federal free/reduced forms remain available and the district is also using a local form to identify families eligible for the expanded bracket. He directed families to the food service tab on the district website for hard copies and resource links.
The board reviewed a proposed 2026–27 school calendar (start after Labor Day per state law, two early-release professional development days, parent conference scheduling and December break timing) and voted to approve it while asking administration to confirm whether the state primary date will fall on the first day of school. The vote to adopt the calendar was unanimous.
Kelly closed with an overview of superintendent goals aligned to the district strategic plan — universal design for learning and multiple pathways (academic achievement), student wellness (nutrition and substance‑use prevention), and family/community communication and belonging — and the board voted to approve the goals for the coming year.
