Infrastructure Committee interviews airport advisory applicants, recommends nine appointments to City Council

The Infrastructure Committee on Oct. 7 conducted interviews with shortlisted applicants for the Airport Advisory Commission and voted unanimously to recommend nine individuals for appointment to full City Council.
Debbie Rockasitter, city clerk, reviewed the commission—s role: the 19-member board advises the aviation director on airport and air-transportation matters and includes representatives from aviation, travel and tourism, ground transportation, the airport business community and the broader community. Rockasitter said the clerk—s office opened applications Dec. 18, 2024; by Sept. 15, 2025 the office had received 78 applications, 67 of which were deemed eligible following legal review. An ad hoc shortlisting committee prepared the list of candidates the Infrastructure Committee interviewed.
The committee heard two-minute opening statements and up to three follow-up questions from council members for each shortlisted applicant. Candidates described their relevant experience — examples include aerospace engineering and defense contracting (Mark Provost), TSA and stakeholder emergency coordination (Ignacio Reyes), long military aviation and civilian flight experience (Doyle Turner), hospitality and tourism leadership (Brian Morris, William Brendo), transportation logistics and community engagement (Tasha Carr, Jose Lerma), airport business and retail experience (Marsha Henler), and route planning and airline relations (Marco Barros). Several applicants emphasized priorities such as improving nonstop air service, ensuring the airport is welcoming to visitors, coordinating ground transportation and rental‑car access, and balancing commercial and neighborhood concerns.
After completing interviews and a closed deliberation under the Texas Government Code, the committee reconvened in open session and moved to recommend the following nominees to full City Council for appointment through March 18, 2027: Mark Provost (airport business/lessee category); Doyle Turner (aviation industry); Wilson Luong (travel and tourism); Marsha Henler, Brian Morris and Christie Villanueva (business community); and Ignacio Reyes, Marco Barros and Jose Lerma (community category). The committee—s motion passed unanimously and will be forwarded to full council for confirmation at a future meeting.
No formal action was taken during the executive session; the committee asked staff to notify successful applicants, complete appointment paperwork and encourage appointees to attend the Municipal Leadership Institute training before seating on the commission.
