Martin Stancic raised a concern about an article published by cleveland.com (Plain Dealer) that reported a much larger tax‑reappraisal payment to the district than staff expected. The treasurer and district staff said the article was based on incorrect county data and that cleveland.com issued a correction after district follow‑up; the treasurer confirmed the corrected figure was substantially lower than the figure reported in the original story.
Cathy Kolobat, a grandmother of a district student, described repeated bullying of her grandson, who has autism and is reading below grade level. She described an incident in which the student was punched and said a staff member told the child to see the principal; she said the boy did not feel safe. Superintendent Dr. Hunt acknowledged the concern and said such incidents should be addressed at the building level with teachers and the principal; she offered to ensure the matter receives appropriate follow‑up.
State Representative Sean Greenstein (present at the meeting) delivered a public commendation of district staff and students, praising the district’s work to raise performance and calling the district’s outcomes a community achievement.
None of the public comments led to an immediate board vote; district staff indicated they would follow up with building administrators and the treasurer’s office would continue communicating about the funding issue.
