Daviess County opts in to additional Purdue Pharma settlement; deadline Sept. 30 to join

County staff reported that Daviess County is eligible to opt in to a separate Purdue Pharma opioid settlement and asked the board whether the county should join.
Laura summarized a lengthy settlement document and told commissioners the county was not on a list of Indiana counties that had pending litigation against Purdue and therefore would be eligible. She said amounts available to the county depend on how many jurisdictions in Indiana opt in and that there is no statewide spreadsheet of local shares yet. She also told the commissioners any funds received under this settlement must be kept in a separate account and require separate reporting from the county’s existing Indiana opioid settlement funds. "If we do opt in, we have to do it by September 30," she said.
Commissioners discussed existing local coordinating entities and prevention programs (LCC/JRAC) and asked staff to provide a clearer accounting of how opioid‑related and prevention funds are being allocated locally so allocations are not duplicated. One commissioner asked staff to inventory intermediaries and existing programs and to consider consolidation where appropriate.
A motion to opt in to the settlement and direct staff to manage and report on the fund separately was made by Commissioner Keith, seconded, and passed by unanimous voice vote.
