Adventure Club enrollments rise; district still faces childcare staffing and wait-list pressures

Presenter said the program had 72 partially enrolled families, a wait list of about 240 families and that staff were contacting about 60 families to offer additional care following transportation updates. District officials emphasized that enrollment is fluid, with movement tied to school start and end times, family work schedules and other factors.
Annette described efforts to recruit staff and expand capacity: the district has raised the starting wage for Adventure Club staff to just over $19 per hour (supported in part by state funds), is advertising on job sites, posting at local colleges and reaching out to paraprofessionals to ask whether they could work an extra hour to qualify for benefits and increase staffing stability. She said the district estimated a need for roughly 20 additional staff to meet demand.
The presenter also highlighted a surge in youth enrichment registration, noting 359 registrations on the first day this year compared with 69 on the first day last year, and told the board that scholarships through Youth Advantage were available for families who need financial assistance.
Board members asked practical questions about wait-list priority and how to sign up; staff said current families receive priority, and that families may call (651) 351-8300 or use the district website to join wait lists or request care.
