Rockville planning commission approves vineyard wine-tasting permit with conditions

The Rockville Planning Commission voted to approve a special-event permit for a ticketed wine-education event at Mandira Vineyard, 450 West Vineyard Lane, on Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Allison Gerald Jones, the applicant, described the event as a small, educational gathering focused on Utah-grown grapes and sustainable farming, saying the event was “designed to align with those values and not disrupt them.” Commissioners added conditions addressing fire danger, traffic and alcohol permitting.

Commissioners asked about capacity, on-site services and alcohol licensing. Jones told the commission the tickets are limited and that guests without tickets would be turned away; she said the organizer had sold 60 tickets and planned to cap total attendance at 70. Jones confirmed the event would provide two porta-potties, on-site trash control, signage for parking and ‘‘no smoking’’ signs; she said signage on roads would be removed immediately after the event. She said Iron Gate Winery would host and carry relevant insurance for the wine service and that the organizers would supply the local consent form the commission signs to enable the DABS (alcohol) permit process.

Commissioners reminded the applicant to supply proof of DABS/local consent and to coordinate with staff on any required permits and inspections. The motion to approve cited compliance with Chapter 9 §1.25 (special-event regulations) and the Rockville General Plan; the commission approved the permit by roll call.

The applicant must return the signed local-consent form to staff so she can complete the DABS application. The commission told the applicant to ensure all signage is removed promptly and that the event follow the posted speed limits and no-smoking rules due to extreme fire risk.
