Terminal rehabilitation advances; taxiway project to extend into October

Airport staff updated the board on construction at the passenger terminal and airfield.
On the terminal rehabilitation, staff said phase 1 is finishing with the arrival and installation of a new generator expected to conclude the first phase by November. The escalators and roof work are complete. Phase 2 will expand the TSA checkpoint area and include other remodeling; staff estimates phase 2 could take 16 to 18 months once contracts and TSA approvals are finalized.
Staff reported an escalator fault that stopped operation when a foreign object became lodged; the elevators/escalators remain under warranty and the vendor was expected to respond to a service ticket.
On airfield work, staff reported taxiway additions J1 and J2 are about 55% complete, with work on the southern end currently underway. Originally scheduled to reopen the runway by late August, staff said weather and other delays mean the runway closure and associated impacts are now expected to extend into mid-to-late October, and event scheduling that depended on the runway will be rescheduled.
Staff also said an expansion plan to move operations to the far north side was scaled back after FAA funding was not secured; current plans focus on remodeling the existing terminal.
