Superintendent asks board to consider moving strategic-plan meeting to avoid high-school playoff conflict

He noted that Mahwah High School will host first-round state basketball games for both boys and girls on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., which could force families to choose between attending playoff games and the strategic-plan session. He urged the board to consider changing the meeting date and said he had checked school calendars at all six district schools to avoid other conflicts.
The superintendent asked for a quick availability check; a March 12 alternative was discussed as a possibility. Board members emphasized the need to confirm quorum and double-check schedules before finalizing any change. Titoro said he would follow up if the board indicated the alternate date worked.
In the same report, Titoro and assistant superintendent Doctor Ferrer highlighted district activities and achievements: the Model Schools Foundation gala promotion, elementary "100th day" celebrations and recent performing-arts achievements. Doctor Ferrer also announced an alumni spotlight on Varshaa Narayanan, a recent graduate now at NJIT who presented AI-and-oncology research, and publicized a Bergen County educator job fair to be hosted at Mahwah High School on April 5, 2025.
No formal action to change the strategic-plan meeting date was recorded at the Feb. 19 meeting; the superintendent requested board members check availability and report back so the district can notify the public if a date change is made.
Quotes in the meeting included the superintendent's explanation of the conflict and his request for board members to confirm availability: "The last thing I want is for our community to have to pick and choose" between supporting playoff teams and attending the strategic-plan meeting, he said.
The board directed staff to confirm schedules and, if members consent, to notify the public of any date change.
