Huron awarded $300,000 boating grant; city to match for $500,000 dock project

Parks and recreation staff told the council the city received notification that a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service boating infrastructure grant selected the city's project for $300,000. The city plans to pair that award with a $200,000 local match to spend about $500,000 replacing several docks in the boat basin.
"We intend to use that 300,000, and the additional $200,000 grant will be a local match," City Manager Mister Hamilton said. Staff said the work will replace a couple of sets of docks and that they will keep council updated on schedules and procurement.
The council also received event announcements: Riverfest is scheduled for Friday, July 11 (evening fireworks at 10:15) and Saturday, July 12 (including a 5K run and parade at 11 a.m.). A K‑96 Summer Jam is scheduled July 19 at the boat basin.
The grant and event scheduling are informational updates; no formal council action was taken on the grant at the meeting.
