The Vigo County Board of Zoning Appeals approved three variances to allow rebuilding and additions at 2875 W. New Goshen Avenue following major storm damage. Owners Michael and Sher Cheryl Webster sought relief from front‑yard and lot‑area requirements to repair the house and build a smaller detached garage.
Staff reported the corner lot measures roughly 13,630 square feet and does not meet the Unified Zoning Ordinance’s 20,000‑square‑foot minimum for the single‑family suburban RS district. The owners proposed a 16‑by‑15 addition to add a bathroom and a covered front porch; staff said the work should not adversely affect public health, safety or welfare. The Vigo County Health Department’s environmental representative, Anna Bunch, told the board a septic contractor must confirm any new porch or additions are more than 10 feet from septic system components.
The board approved the variances on a voice vote after a motion and second. Staff required an improvement‑location permit for the remodel, additions and the proposed detached garage.
