Kootenai County approves $1.31M ITD grant application to upgrade airport lighting; approves purchase of 10 lockers

Kootenai County commissioners on Feb. 18 authorized county staff to apply for a $1,310,000 discretionary grant from the Idaho Transportation Department to update airport lighting and approved a separate purchase of 10 lockers for snow-removal equipment.
Kim Stevenson, airport representative, said the ITD supplemental funding is discretionary and the airport requested upgrades in three parts: runway lighting for Runway 22/02, PAPI lights for 22/20 and 24, and taxiway lighting (November/Hotel/Golf/Lima/Delta/Foxtrot) to convert fixtures to LED. "We put together a list of projects that we felt were dearly needed, and we're looking for the approval from the board to send in the application," Stevenson said. The state may award none, part, or all of the airport's requests.
The board approved the grant application by voice vote; commissioners recorded Aye votes and the motion carried. The application requires no local match.
Stevenson also asked the board to approve purchasing 10 lockers at $720 each ($7,200 total) for the airport's SRE (snow-removal equipment) building. She said $6,603.35 would come from remaining ITD grant budget (Fund 50) and $596.65 from Fund 30 capital budget; staff noted there was not currently fee budget available in Fund 30. The board approved the purchase and the proposed fund-balance usage.
Both actions were approved without amendment. Commissioner Eberlein voted Aye. Commissioner Duncan voted Aye. Chair Metari voted Aye.
