Mayor: River Heights will explore waste-management extension, audiology lease repayment; 600 South COG funding not awarded

Mayor Blake Wright told the council on Nov. 4 that a proposed extension of the city’s waste-management arrangement to 2033 was being discussed by the consortium and that he would "explore that a little bit." Wright said the proposed extension was part of broader cost-control conversations at the consortium and that the city would evaluate whether to support or oppose a long-term extension.
Wright also reported that he had reached a verbal arrangement with the school district to update the audiology lease to reflect the city taking over the building; the school district indicated a willingness to repay back rent and to resume paying rent going forward. Wright said he needed to finalize the agreement in writing.
The mayor added that the city’s application to the Council of Governments (COG) for funding for the 600 South project was not awarded. He said the city would consider reapplying next year.
