Council approves $181,262 purchase to replace in-car radios in patrol vehicles

The City Council approved a purchase of $181,262.08 from Motorola Solutions to replace approximately 23 in-car radios in the city’s patrol fleet, Chief Winnick told the council.
Chief Winnick said the department has about 45 patrol vehicles; this purchase replaces roughly half of that fleet with new mobile radios and staff plans to return next year to fund replacement of the remaining radios. He said the existing radios are about 13 years old and no longer supported by the manufacturer; parts and warranty service are no longer available.
The chief said new radios are expected to last about a decade. Council asked who would install the radios; staff said the city fleet shop can perform the swap for existing vehicles and that new vehicles are outfitted by the upfitter (Defender) when delivered.
Council moved and approved the resolution as presented.
