The Washington County Planning & Zoning Commission on Nov. 3 recommended approval of a small-scale future land-use amendment for property on Douglas Ferry Road requested by the Harrises. The parcel, roughly 10 acres, seeks to change from agriculture/silviculture to residential low to permit a second dwelling unit.
Planning staff said the county met public-noticing requirements and held a neighborhood information meeting attended by four neighbors; attendees were not opposed once they understood the request was to allow housing for a family member. Staff recommended approval and the commission voted to forward the recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners, which is scheduled to consider the item on Nov. 13.
The change addresses a technical limit in the agriculture/silviculture category, which normally allows one dwelling unit per 10 acres; the applicant said the additional dwelling is for an immediate family member. Commissioners had no substantive questions and no audience members spoke in opposition.
