Commission gives first reading to police pension/DROP change required by recently ratified contract
Summary

The City Commission on Nov. 4 gave first reading to an ordinance required by the ratified collective-bargaining agreement with the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association.
The ordinance (26-25) amends the municipal code to extend the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) from five years to eight years and requires members who participate in DROP for more than 60 months to contribute 3% to the pension trust fund. Anthea Giannotis presented the item and said the change is a contractually required, ministerial step following ratification of the labor agreement.
Commissioners voted in favor on first reading; staff noted the ordinance is being adopted to conform with negotiated contract language and that the adoption is a ministerial function.
Ending: The ordinance passed first reading unanimously and will return for second reading and final adoption as required by law.
