Bluff submits International Dark Sky community application; staff to complete checklist for association review

Bluff’s application to become an International Dark Sky Community was submitted to the Dark Sky Association on Dec. 19, town staff reported Jan. 7. Sarah Barak, who led the submission effort, said program coordinator Michael Reamer acknowledged receipt and is working through a queue of applications.
Reamer requested that the town complete an internal checklist showing where the application meets specific program requirements. Staff said they will prepare that checklist and indicate where supporting documentation appears in the application packet. Once the coordinator is satisfied the checklist and supporting materials are complete, he will take the application to the association’s board for consideration. Staff cautioned the review could take several months, but they described the town’s submission as “very strong.”
The council also noted a likely small addition: the town may append its sign ordinance to the application to ensure the association can verify signage provisions. Design and layout work for any requested revisions can be handled by the project’s designer if needed, and staff said the designer is available to make adjustments requested by the association.
