The Knoxville Transportation Authority voted to approve a routing modification to Route 37 (Morningside–Riverside) that will route buses to serve Isabella Towers inbound and outbound all day.
KTA legal counsel John Lawhorn told the board the change "does not require a Title VI analysis" and does not require a public hearing, but does require a KTA vote. Planning staff said the change revises the inbound routing so buses will turn onto Groner, then Isabella, then Clifford and Hazen to return to the regular route, shortening wait times for some riders.
Staff clarified that no stop on the red section of the old inbound alignment had ever been installed and that the agency intends to reinstate a stop at Clifford and Hazel where a curb cut exists. Planning staff said the weekday and Saturday frequencies for the route will remain a 30-minute headway.
After brief questions about stop removal and spacing, the board moved, seconded and approved the proposal. The director also noted that route adjustments approved by KTA in November will begin Jan. 27.
KTA action summary: the board approved the Route 37 inbound routing change; staff will add a stop at Clifford and Hazel and implement the alignment change beginning Jan. 27.
