Council adopts revised final plan for Iron Horse Center outdoor patio; planning process review scheduled

The Leawood governing body unanimously adopted a resolution approving a revised final plan for the Iron Horse Center outdoor patio, after discussing related Planning Commission minutes and a fence issue that previously drew attention.
Council members said the Planning Commission had asked thorough questions in its minutes, which the council reviewed. Council Member Lisa Kane noted the commission’s recommendation and that the requirement to remove a fence (estimated earlier at $75,000) would not be imposed on the current owners. Planning staff said owners sometimes are not aware they need permits and that staff will hold a March work session with the Planning Commission and permitting staff, including Travis Torres, to address procedures and enforcement.
Following discussion, the council moved and adopted the resolution approving the revised final plan for the Iron Horse outdoor patio. The vote was unanimous.
Council members asked staff to pursue the planned work session to improve contractor and owner awareness of permit requirements and to consider procedural changes prompted by the case’s history.
