Sean Gordon of Gordon CPA told the Emporia Board of Education that his firm issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on the district's fiscal year 2024 financial statements and on the federal single audit performed for the year. Gordon said the unmodified opinions reflect favorably on district financial reporting and internal controls.
The audit packet included a summary statement of receipts, expenditures and unencumbered cash. Gordon said the district reported "a little over $36,800,000 on hand as of 06/30/2024." The auditors reviewed federal grant spending that triggered a single audit and focused on two grant programs: Child Nutrition grants (Food Service Fund) and Education Stabilization grants. Gordon said the firm issued an unmodified opinion for the federal programs reviewed and had no auditor recommendations to communicate to the board.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations Pam Stranathion introduced Gordon and thanked district staff for cooperation during the audit. Board members thanked the business office for its work; no formal board action was recorded on the audit presentation.
