Pueblo City has been selected as one of five U.S. cities to join the Department of Justice's National Public Safety Partnership, Chief of Staff Brian McCain announced at the Jan. 13 work session.
"Pueblo has been selected as 1 of 5 cities in the country to join the National Public Safety Partnership, PSP, through the Department of Justice," Brian McCain said, describing the program as a three-year partnership that provides technical assistance to address violent crime.
The program will focus on eight core areas, McCain said: community engagement, constitutional policing, crime analysis, criminal justice collaboration, federal partnerships, gun violence investigations and technology. McCain noted the city logged a 7% decrease in Part 1 crimes in 2024 but said Pueblo is pursuing the DOJ support to drive "sustainable long term change" in violent crime patterns.
DOJ officials and partners are scheduled to meet in Pueblo for an orientation this week, McCain said. The city did not announce additional policy changes at the work session; the kickoff is intended to begin technical and planning assistance that could inform future operational or policy steps.
