Downtown panel approves Columbus Crew club addition and terrace expansions

The commission reviewed and approved COA2400583, a proposal by the stadium operator to expand fan amenities at the Columbus Crew stadium. The project includes a two‑story addition on the east side at the upper concourse to create club space above an existing loading dock, and interior terrace expansions on the north end that will add restrooms and kitchen space within the stadium footprint.
Phil Dangerfield of Hazen Sports Group, project architect Kevin Grama, and contractor representative Jason Roverbeck described the expansion as driven by fan demand. The design team emphasized that materials and detailing will match existing stadium finishes — dark metal panels, gray fiber‑cement board, black storefront framing and dark split‑face CMU — and that the additions will respect the stadium’s original design intent.
The expanded terraces will provide a mix of suite sizes (eight‑person and 16‑person loge suites noted for the upper terraces) and added concessions/restroom capacity on the concourse level. The project team addressed structural column locations and noted that several previously proposed columns were eliminated in response to circulation needs; some columns will be integrated into concession/bar elements.
After brief discussion the commission moved, seconded and voted to approve the application as submitted.
