The Sedona City Council unanimously approved a linking agreement with Flex Ground LLC for installation of rubber surfacing at Ranger Station Park playground in an amount not to exceed $114,418.56.
City staff explained the surfacing work had originally been included in the contractor's scope for playground installation but the contractor had not completed the surfacing. "This work, covered by this new contract, was originally in the contract with the contractor that put in the playground equipment at the park," staff member Andy said. Staff said the new contract was procured after the original contractor missed deadlines and that the Flex Ground price is within the project budget and lower than the original contractor's cost for the same scope.
A councilor noted a separate related contract for quality testing and recused himself from voting on that item, saying his firm represents the testing contractor. Council approved the Flex Ground linking agreement after questions about cost and timing were addressed.
The project is intended to allow the city to complete park improvements and open the playground area in the near term, with staff expecting work to begin within a couple of weeks if approved.
