Manhattan Community Board 2 debates, then rejects, resolution urging officials to seek Mayor Eric Adamsresignation

Manhattan Community Board 2 members introduced a resolution calling on elected officials to seek Mayor Eric Adamsresignation and to pursue state-level removal options. The resolution was presented in new business by Board member Ed Siegel and co-sponsored by Arturo Fernandez and other members.

Board members debated the measure for over an hour. Supporters said the resolution was intended to register the boards concern over recent developments in City Hall and to urge accountability from elected officials. Arturo Fernandez said the board needed to "call out what's happening" and stressed that "we do not accept this" as an acceptable basis for city governance.

Opponents and some members urged caution. Multiple speakers said the board should avoid preempting legal processes and that the governor and other elected officials already were considering appropriate remedies. Several members argued the item was not a natural fit for the community board agenda and suggested the borough board or other forums for broader public input.

The assembly considered two formal amendments. One amendment asked the board to wait for the outcome of a pending judicial action before urging officials to press for removal; that amendment was put to a vote and was incorporated into the text. A subsequent amendment to remove a clause authorizing the board to call for expedited removal failed in a roll-call vote. In the final roll call on the amended resolution the board recorded a substantial number of abstentions. According to the tally reported during the meeting, the final count did not meet the threshold for approval and the resolution failed.

No formal disciplinary or legal action was taken by the board; the failed vote concluded with procedural motions and the meeting moved on to remaining business.
