County awards crack‑seal, truck purchases and establishes Walmart business contract

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Sedgwick County Commission approved recommendations from the County Board of Bids and Contracts (Feb. 13 meeting). Purchasing Director Joe Thomas summarized three items:
- Crack seal project R175H (Public Works): accept low qualified bid from Conspect, doing business as Kansas Paving, for $628,082.32. - Two 1‑ton 4x4 crew cab flatbed fuel and lube trucks (Fleet Management/Public Works): accept low bid meeting specifications from Master Tech Truck and Equipment, LLC, for $228,504. - Walmart Business retail/wholesale merchandise solutions and services: establish a contract using the Omnia/NCPA cooperative contract (Region 14 Educational Service Center of Texas) through Aug. 1, 2026, with two one‑year renewal options.
County Engineer Lehi Packer explained KDOT prequalification requirements for highway contractors; bidders not prequalified for KDOT highway work may be ineligible for certain projects. The commission approved the three recommendations on a roll call vote.
