Staff also outlined a separate historic-preservation education grant due in September 2025. The proposed project would fund QR-code plaques and interpretive materials that the commission could use for a self-guided downtown walking tour; staff said commission members would be asked to assist with historical research and content verification. The commission discussed possible 'passport' stamps or small business incentives to encourage participation and marketing ideas to draw visitors downtown.
Staff said applicants should know results for the Indiana Humanities application in roughly a month. Volunteers and local collectors have expressed willingness to loan artifacts and display pieces. The commission did not finalize any commitments pending grant awards and further planning.
