Sedgwick County returns contested self‑storage rezoning to Planning Commission for aesthetic review

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners voted Feb. 19 to return a contested rezoning request — ZON2024-59 — to the county Planning Commission for additional consideration focused on improved aesthetics and architectural design.

Scott Wadle, Sedgwick County planning staff, told the board the applicant seeks to rezone a site just under an acre at 3416 W. 50th Street North (described on the application as the northeast corner of W. 50th Street North and North Geogoe Avenue) from SF-20 (single‑family) to GC (General Commercial) to allow warehouse self‑storage, and that staff found the request "in partial conformance with a comprehensive plan" but not in conformance with the plan's land‑use compatibility guidelines.
