District selects vendor after 23 VoIP proposals; contract in legal review, board action planned for March

Charles White, the district's technology director, updated the board on a year-long review of the district's phone contract. He said Lenoir County Public Schools issued a public RFP and received 23 proposals for a replacement Voice-over-IP phone system.
A cross-functional committee including bookkeepers, digital learning specialists, technicians and engineers evaluated proposals on cost, technical capacity, vendor experience, maintenance and implementation plans. The committee selected a vendor and the proposed contract has been submitted to the district's counsel for review (Arrington Smith). White said he intends to present the finalized contract to the board for approval at the March meeting.
White noted the replacement will cover classroom and office phones districtwide, introduce enhanced features and produce substantial annual savings compared with the existing contract; the project will also provide enhanced 911 (E911) capacity.
No vote was taken tonight; the contract is pending legal revision and final vendor signatures before board consideration.
