Board approves architect contract to add two CTE shops at East Hickman, renovate Hickman County culinary lab

District administrators said the original grant plan included an off-site barn that presented ADA and site-access challenges and would not have fit the grant’s compliance requirements. The district proposed instead to build two roughly 1,600-square-foot shops adjacent to the greenhouse at East Hickman — one dedicated to agricultural programs and one to HVAC — so each career-tech program would have an assigned shop rather than share space. Administrators said any leftover site space would be used to add a pavilion to support the animal-science program.
Administrators reminded the board the original grant total is $3,000,000 (described in the meeting as $1,000,000 for each high school and $500,000 for each middle school) and that prior expenditures included lab equipment. The board discussed shop sizing, electrical and plumbing requirements, and the need to involve instructors in the design specifications. The superintendent and staff said instructors had already provided equipment and systems lists to the architects.
