Riverton remediation complete for Parcel A; Bass Pro Shop construction on schedule

Agency attorneys and staff reported that remediation for Parcel A of the Riverton redevelopment site is complete and that a multi-party maintenance and management agreement with Middlesex County and NJDEP has been executed. Engineers said Bass Pro Shops construction is progressing, with the building shell expected to be finished by fall.
Agency attorney Mike reported that, after many years, the agreement among the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Middlesex County and local parties for the Riverton property (Parcel A) has been fully executed and the parties are moving into implementation of the remedial action outcome. "After many years, the parcel agreement among the DEP and the county has finally been fully executed," Mike said.
Mike and staff explained Parcel A is the bayfront piece acquired as open space and that remediation work for Parcel A is complete. Agency staff said Parcel C is about 95% remediated and Parcel B still requires a finalized access agreement with an adjoining cinema site to complete additional testing and capping activities. The executed management agreement relieves some carrying costs for the borough while enabling the final documentation to be filed with the department.
Engineer Justin reported visible progress at the Riverton site and said Bass Pro Shops27 site work is ongoing; he noted the shell/exterior of the building is expected to be finished by this fall. Agency staff also said some parcels remain under contract for sale and that final access and maintenance arrangements are being implemented now that the DEP and county documentation is complete.
Staff thanked county and DEP partners and asked commissioners to note continued marketing of adjoining parcels, including joint marketing discussions with Riverton stakeholders. Commissioners did not receive any public comment on the item.
