Washington County approves $15,000 local match for UTV to support Soil & Water work

Chris Respess, Soil & Water technician, asked the Board on May 5 to approve a $15,000 local match to purchase a Can-Am Defender Max utility vehicle. Respess said a STRAP grant would provide $32,825 toward the purchase and that the county—ontribution would allow acquisition of equipment that otherwise would cost the county about $47,000.
Commissioner Tracey A. Johnson moved to approve the request to fund the $15,000 local match from the aquatic weed management line. Commissioner John C. Spruill asked how the UTV differs from using an existing four-wheeler; Respess explained the UTV would allow simultaneous use when another vehicle is in the shop and would be more effective for cost-share tasks. Commissioner Ann C. Keyes seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The purchase is intended to increase productivity and field capability for Soil & Water operations.
