The Gibson City Council authorized purchase of a new police squad car, approving an expenditure not to exceed $85,000 at its May 27 meeting.
Chief Rosendahl told the council the vehicle was included in the adopted budget. The city-side state bid price for a 2024 Dodge Durango was listed as $44,979; Chief Rosendahl said outfitting the vehicle with lights and required equipment would cost about $38,000. He also said two existing squad cars are out of service and will be sold, with sale proceeds returned to the city.
Alderman Susie Tongate moved to approve the purchase, Alderman Laura Miller seconded, and the council approved the motion unanimously. The council did not present vendor names, an exact outfitting estimate, or a timetable for delivery and sale of the old vehicles during the meeting.
