The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan for the Wilmer K Furniture property at 1501 S. 169 Highway that will remove the front additions to create a new parking field and updated retail facade. Jack, planning staff, said the project reduces older front additions approximately 100 feet back to the original building line, expands parking from roughly 19–20 spaces to about 126 spaces and proposes an earth‑tone facade consistent with nearby retail centers.
Shane Crease, representing the applicant, said the goal is a complete property redevelopment to improve visibility and attract quality tenants. A member of the public, Gene Owen, spoke in support and described the redevelopment as long overdue. The commission voted unanimously to approve the site plan; staff said the item will appear on the Board of Aldermen agenda the following Tuesday as a resolution for final action.
The approved site plan includes updated parking and circulation, façade improvements and landscaping concentrated at the front of the property. The applicant indicated there has been tenant interest but final tenant mix and interior layouts will be addressed during building-permit review and leasing.
