Board approves $97,225 RISE curriculum package for Oak Lawn program

The Derby Board of Education approved a three-year contract valued at $97,225 for RISE curriculum materials and staff training for Oak Lawn Elementary's one-room program on July 7.
Dr. Putnam Jackson described the RISE purchase as targeted to students placed in a specialized program after expulsion or for significant behavior incidents. "This curriculum is just for the one-room at Oak Lawn elementary that is housing students ... It includes staff training as that projected support days as well as the curriculum materials," she said. The purchase is on the state evidence-based list for social-emotional learning and will be funded from the district's at-risk allocation and curriculum/textbook funds.
A trustee moved to approve the purchase and the motion passed 7-0.
Staff said the materials include training days and projected support for program staff and that the investment is intended to support student re-engagement and behavior interventions.
