Sarah Irvine, special projects administrator for the City of Lake Wales, told the commission the interlocal reimbursement results from county plans to widen Thompson Nursery Road and a developer's utility work that placed city utilities on a side of the road where county plans now require them to be relocated.
Irvine said the city negotiated with the developer and the contractor so the contractor would relocate the lines while work was underway, and the city will reimburse the contractor directly for that work. "The cost that the city will pay ... is going to be an outright payment of $543,197.70," Irvine said; she confirmed the cost is expected to be paid from the utility fund rather than the general fund.
Irvine said the interlocal agreement and contract had been reviewed by the city attorney, county counsel and the developer's attorney; only minor grammatical edits remained. She told commissioners a map and supporting materials are in the meeting packet and that the item will be brought back for formal action on the commission agenda.
No final vote or contract execution occurred at the work session; staff said the item will be on the next regular agenda for formal approval.
