Commission approves rezoning of 311 North Eighth Street to single-family residential

The Atchison City Commission on a voice vote adopted Ordinance No. 6721, rezoning 311 North Eighth Street from B-4 business district to R-1 single-family residential district.
Curtis Wheeler, presenting the item for planning staff, said the planning commission reviewed the request on June 4 and recommended approval. Wheeler said the property is a single-family home and the owner is refinancing; the R-1 designation was required to complete that financing.
Commissioners had no substantive questions about land-use compatibility. Wheeler noted the block north of Santa Fe is primarily residential and that the B-4 designation appears to have been assigned at an earlier time.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the ordinance after staff confirmed there were no public objections during the planning commission public hearing.
The action updates the city—s zoning map and repeals prior map provisions inconsistent with the change.
