Emily Faulkinder introduced the Western Kansas Career Showcase program and asked the council to approve a $500 career‑level membership so Oakley can staff a table and participate in three regional showcases.
Faulkinder said the showcases differ from career fairs because students rotate through smaller group presentations so each student speaks with every business in attendance. She described the Oakley showcase as focusing on health care while the other two showcases include multi‑career formats; all 18 high schools in the area had been invited. Faulkinder said the $500 career level “allows the city to attend all 3 showcases” and that businesses participating can bring multiple staff to represent different job types.
Councilmember Russ moved and Councilmember Lisa seconded the motion to approve the $500 sponsorship; the motion passed unanimously. Staff will coordinate payment and notify Faulkinder of the city’s participation details.
