Carroll County proclaims July 17 as Jared Jefferson Day after Boys & Girls Club honors youth of the year

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners read and signed a proclamation Thursday honoring Jared Jefferson as the Boys & Girls Club of Carroll County Youth of the Year 2025 and proclaimed July 17 as "Jared Jefferson Day." The proclamation highlighted the Boys & Girls Club's youth development programs and said the organization serves more than 900 young people in the county.
Commissioner Gordon read the proclamation, noting Jared's leadership, advocacy for mental health and mentorship work. Jared, named Maryland State Youth of the Year, spoke briefly about the importance of talking to people, looking them in the eye and learning from others; he also described travel and public speaking opportunities he experienced after being named state winner, including a trip to New York.
County staff and officials, including representatives from the Department of Citizen Services and the local management board, praised the Boys & Girls Club leadership pipeline. They noted that Carroll County clubs have produced four Maryland state Youth of the Year winners in the past six years and that past winners are serving as staff and mentors for summer programs.
The board presented Jared and local staff for photos and thanked the Boys & Girls Club for its work in youth development.
