Arrowhead sees higher AP participation and stronger scores after schedule change; pass rate at 93%

Arrowhead Union High School District administrators told the board July 9 that more students took Advanced Placement exams this year and that scores largely held steady or improved, a result school leaders tied to the block schedule changes.
The district reported about 200 additional AP exams taken this year when compared to prior averages and said 14 of 17 AP courses saw increases or essentially unchanged average scores. Administrators noted some statistically notable gains: Human Geography averaged roughly a full point increase over its previous multi‑year average; Physics 1 rose by 0.63 points; and United States Government and Politics increased by about 0.61 points. The superintendent reported the district’s overall AP pass rate (scores of 3 or higher) at 93 percent for the year.
The district cautioned about small‑sample volatility for classes with fewer test takers, and staff said they limited the analysis to exams with at least 25 students to reduce statistical noise. Administrators credited teachers and schedule adjustments for the rise in participation and continued strong performance and said they would follow up with additional details and disaggregated data upon request.
No board action was required; the results were presented for information and to inform instructional planning.
