During discussion, commissioners and staff said the crash occurred on private property when the county vehicle backed into a neighbor’s legally parked vehicle. Commissioners questioned whether county vehicles should be driven to employees’ private residences during work hours and whether a written vehicle-use policy is needed. One commissioner said the driver had asked permission to stop at his house before making deliveries; others said the county’s existing procedures should be reviewed and formalized.
County staff said the claimant exchanged insurance information and that TAC handled the claim; the county later received the invoice for the $1,000 deductible. Commissioners asked the auditor and county attorney to advise whether future similar claims could be handled directly by the county rather than by filing through TAC.
