South Pasadena updates SB1 spending and slurry program; City Council-awarded $6.885M street contract to Gentry Brothers

Staff briefed the City of South Pasadena Public Works Infrastructure Commission on July 9 about state SB1 funding, a recently completed slurry-seal campaign and the larger FY19-20 street improvement project that City Council awarded June 18.
Michael, Public Works staff, told commissioners that SB1 (a state gas-tax funding program) requires a maintenance-of-effort and that "our maintenance of effort is approximately $1,400,000 per year. And, if we meet that maintenance of effort, South Pasadena receives approximately $700,000 a year. So in fiscal year 25 26, we're slated to receive $704,838." He said the city reached roughly $654,068 from SB1 in FY23-24 and that the annual amount varies.
Staff said the city completed a slurry-seal operation covering about five miles of streets using the new zone approach (purple, orange and pink zones in this cycle).
