Wilson County commissioners approved a quitclaim deed July 10 to convey a small lane in the Misty Lake Drive subdivision to Ben Scurlock after staff explained the late Judge David Durham had not recorded his deed.
The county attorney described the history: the lane had previously been divided and quitclaimed to adjacent owners; Judge Durham's copy of the deed was not recorded before his estate sold the property. The purchaser, Ben Scurlock, requested the county clear the title by issuing a quitclaim deed referencing the original conveyance.
Commissioners moved to approve the quitclaim deed so staff could reference the conveyance in the county's documentation. The motion passed by voice vote.
The action is administrative and intended to clear the recorded chain of title for the parcel; staff will complete the deed documentation and record it as appropriate.
