Staff presented conceptual designs July 9 for Shipyard Phase 2, a multimillion-dollar park project north of Mason Street along the Fox River. The presentation described a $10 million target budget (a mix of grant funding and TID funds) and showed site programming that includes a large, iconic playground, a splash pad with lighting and music, terraces for seating and temporary stage setup for larger events, a fenced dog park, sand volleyball courts, a container-bar area, restrooms and flexible lawn space.
Staff said design is approximately 50% complete and that the consultant is still refining elements. Committee members and several attendees offered feedback during the session — suggestions included designing the central art/crane feature so it could function as a backdrop or integrated stage, stamping and coloring concrete for visual variety, and building four volleyball courts at the outset to support league play and tournaments.
This item was informational; the committee voted to receive and place the presentation on file so staff can continue detailed design and public engagement. Staff said additional public input meetings and funding steps will follow.
