Mount Vernon awards LaVenture Road widening contract to Inner West Construction

The City of Mount Vernon has awarded a contract to Inner West Construction Incorporated to build sidewalk, bike lanes, ADA ramp replacements and stormwater improvements on LaVenture Road between Hogue Road and Sigmar Lane.
The City of Mount Vernon City Council authorized the mayor to execute a public-works contract with Inner West Construction Incorporated on July 9 to construct the LaVenture Road Widening Project.
Public Works presented the project, which will install a new sidewalk on the east side of LaVenture Road, bike lanes on both sides between Hogue Road and Sigmar Lane, replace pedestrian crosswalk ramps at Sandalwood Drive and Austin Lane, mark a new crosswalk, perform a thin grind-and-overlay of the roadway within the project footprint, and convert an open surface stormwater drainage channel to an underground pipe to accommodate the sidewalk.
Frank Brandon, public-works staff, said the project is funded through a state urban arterial program grant that covers design and construction; local funds will supply the grant match and any ineligible costs. Bids were opened June 25; staff received five bids and determined the Inner West Construction bid was the lowest responsive bid from a responsible bidder. Council praised competitive bids and noted the construction estimate in the TIP was higher than the final bid.
Council member Melissa moved and Richard seconded a motion to award and authorize the contract. The motion passed.
Work will proceed under the terms of the contract and with state grant oversight; staff said they will coordinate grant reporting and local match accounting as required by the grant agreement.
