Tumwater commission reviews draft food system goals and seeks implementation actions for access, waste reduction and local processing

Rebecca (consultant) and planning staff presented the community food assessment and requested commissioner feedback on draft goals and policies centered on three themes: equitable access to culturally appropriate food, food-waste reduction, and support for local food production and processing. "This is about getting your feedback," Rebecca said at the start of the presentation.

Staff explained that the goals are paired with draft policies and that the next step will be implementation actions tied to funding, legal review and operational responsibilities. Commissioners urged that implementation actions name a lead department or partner so that the city can estimate staffing and budget implications when considering priorities.
