"No lost kids this year," a volunteer said, a departure from past years. Organizers credited the event's large turnout in part to neighboring municipalities canceling their fireworks displays, which drew additional visitors from Pembroke Pines, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens and Coral Gables.
Members said they ran short on some supplies and that one of four light towers failed; staff told the committee they will increase inspection and redundancy for future events. Estimates of crowd size were visual approximations rather than automated counts.
The committee also debriefed a pilot fishing tournament held at the lakefront and thanked volunteers, naming Harold Dean, Omar and Charles for staffing tables and assisting with the event.
