Building and zoning issues: permits, inspections and Hoover Ridge erosion work reported

Jamie Wilkes, representing the building and zoning department, told the board the department issued 1,175 permits in the prior fiscal year, including 67 new dwellings, and acknowledged inspection counts are skewed by data imported from the old system.
For June specifically, Wilkes reported 241 inspections and six new dwelling permits, with 150 total permits issued that month. He also reported ongoing erosion and sediment control work at Hoover Ridge and that the department is processing several subdivisions and violations.
Wilkes said he met with the health department and a new proprietor at the former Miranda’s restaurant, issued corrections and then issued a certificate of occupancy; he said the restaurant is scheduled to open on Friday.
Wilkes noted staffing and training updates, including a new zoning and building technician attending core modules and a permit technician course in September.
No zoning changes or new ordinances were proposed during the report.
