County discusses small-town park grants and $2.25M in school bond funds for McConnell and Hardy projects

Resolution 725-28 would appropriate up to $2,250,000 in bond funds, pending school board approval, for Hamilton County Schools projects including a multipurpose building at McConnell Elementary and a playground partnership project at Hardy Elementary in collaboration with Trust for Public Land. County officials described McConnell as a long-standing need for a multipurpose facility; commissioners emphasized the academic and recreational benefits of improved school facilities. The mayor and county staff said the Hardy Elementary item reflects a planned $250,000 county public investment; county officials said they have invited Trust for Public Land to contribute design expertise and help with fundraising but clarified that Trust for Public Land financial commitments were not announced on the record.

School and Trust for Public Land representatives were present to answer questions and commissioners underscored that the school board must approve the appropriation before funds are released.
